This welcoming Irish pub, located on the ground floor of the historic Rice Lofts, built in 1913, takes the Irish-pub-in-America concept to a new level. Dublin native and owner John “Max” McElroy together with his wife Valerie created the space around a richly detailed, 19th-century bar shipped from Ireland. Bar also incorporates original tables and richly appointed burgundy leather seating from the Rice Hotel dating back to the 1920s. Max began his storied career in Dublin, as a young lad, where he helped his father in his pub before bringing his expertise and talents across to America.
Since opening in 2003, this bustling pub boasts all of the basics of your favorite Irish watering hole: a casual atmosphere crammed with convivial crowds; a stately central bar made of dark wood and big-screen TVs fit for game night, whether you’re watching baseball, basketball, golf, football or football. Pouring all of the classic drinks you’ve come to love—pints of draft Guinness, whiskey-laced Irish coffee and hot toddies. Pull up a stool by the bartender or ease back onto one of the comfy leather chairs or sofas set up in and around the bar.
The pub and patio are located on Main St. with the pub and building remaining an iconic part of Houston’s Main Street Square Historic District.
